Summary:
The grounds supervisor will oversee the maintenance and upkeep of all grounds on the MDCA&CH campus and ensure the grounds are kept clean, safe, and well-maintained.
The supervisor role is a working supervisory position requiring skilled labor and includes working alongside groundskeeping staff performing landscaping and related services.
The position also includes setup and teardown for campus events; supervising and training staff; and assisting the director of operations in conducting site surveys, preparing job estimates, and coordinating vendors and contractors.
SUPERVISORY DUTIES:
Supervises and trains employees/staff who maintain grounds and all event setups/teardowns on campusOversees the day-to-day workflow, scheduling, and assignments of the department, including completing work orders and purchase order requestsCollaborates regularly with the director of operations and those on the executive leadership team to identify landscaping and grounds renovation needsInspects and approves work performed by outside contractorsAssists the director of operations in preparing the departmental budget and reviewing departmental budget reports for compliance with a set budgetLeads and participates in all setups and breakdowns for all school and home events on campus in coordination with the department overseeing the eventDIRECT LANDSCAPING AND GROUNDS DUTIES:
Collect and discard litter and other waste materialsOperate a variety of maintenance equipment ranging from small tools to power equipmentEnsures proper hydration of lawns, trees, and plants using an extensive irrigation system throughout our 70-acre campusTrims trees and vegetation, maintains flower beds, keeps areas free of debris and weeds, and ensures they are well mulched Maintains sidewalks, driveways, parking lots, fountains, planters, gutters, roofs, and other sites around campusPerforms regular and seasonal maintenance on irrigation systems and lawn equipmentInstalls and maintains special features such as retaining walls, playground equipment, seating areas, windscreen, and similarPerforms other related duties as assignedRequirementsMINIMUM
Qualifications:
Excellent verbal communication skillsCommunication and good working relationships with othersStrong supervisory and leadership skillsAbility to prioritize tasks and delegate when appropriateAbility to read blueprints and working diagramsUnderstanding of groundskeeping and landscaping practices and proceduresAbility to work efficiently and thoroughlyThorough understanding of how to care for various types of lawns, greenery, and plantsAbility to operate various types of power equipment, including mowers, trimmers, hedge trimmers, leaf blowers, and other landscaping equipmentA curious mind, high energy, and a passion for a Christian educational settingA committed Christian working toward a close personal walk with the LordMust submit to a background checkPHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Prolonged periods of standing, walking, bending, climbing ladders, kneeling, and pullingMust be able to lift to 50 lbs at a timeMust be physically able to operate power equipmentMust be able to work in a variety of weather conditionsPreference will be given to applicants who are members of a congregation of the churches of Christ.
